The Knights of the Campanile was established in 1926 at Trinity College Dublin, with the primary objective of entertaining visiting sports teams.
The Society of the Knights of the Campanile, founded in 1926 at Trinity College Dublin, was inspired by Oxford’s Vincent’s Club and Cambridge’s Hawks’ Club. The close ties between the universities are symbolized in the Knights’ colours: dark blue for Oxford, light blue for Cambridge, and pink for sporting excellence in Dublin.
The Society’s mission is to advance Trinity’s sporting activities, enhance hospitality for visiting teams—particularly those from outside Ireland—and provide financial aid to students of exceptional athletic talent.
Membership, capped at 50 student Knights at a time, is awarded by current members to those who excel in College sport, either as players or organizers. Honorary membership may also be granted at the Annual General Meeting to individuals with significant contributions to College or global sports.
With over 1,200 lifelong members worldwide, the Society continues to celebrate and support sporting excellence.
The Society has a nearly 100-year history of supporting sports at Trinity College Dublin.
Membership spans the globe, connecting sportspeople and alumni internationally.
At any given time, only 50 student members are active, ensuring an exclusive and prestigious membership.
